PARIS – New footage is giving the public a first look into the restored Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, five years after the church was devastated by a huge fire in 2019.
The video was released by the French authorities.
A fire broke out inside the cathedral’s roof space back in April 2019. By the time the blaze was put out, the wooden spire had collapsed. Also, most of the wooden roof and upper walls were severely damaged.
Authorities have not determined the cause of the fire, but the working theory is a cigarette or electrical issue may have started the fire.
French President Emmanuel Macron toured the restored cathedral and gave the public a detailed look at the work inside the building.
Notre-Dame is due to officially reopen to visitors on December 8.
