Austin Westlake Falls In State Championship To North Crowley

Austin Westlake fell to North Crowley in the Class 6A Division 1 finals at AT&T Stadium on Saturday night.

North Crowley pulled off a successful flea flicker on the game’s first play for a score and never looked back.

Westlake fought back, but the North Crowley offense was just too much.

The Panthers put up 640 yards in the game.

North Crowley finishes the season undefeated. The team is the first Fort Worth school to win a title in the state’s largest classification since Arlington Heights won in 1948.

Westlake finishes the season with a 14-2 record.

First Half

North Crowley leads Austin Westlake at halftime by the score of 28-7.

North Crowley struck early with a flea flicker on the first play from scrimmage. Cornelius Warren III flipped the ball back to quarterback Chris Jimerson, who hit Quentin Gibson for a 75-yard score.

Westlake’s Grady Bartlett scored on a short run tie tie the score at 7-7.

After that, it was all North Crowley, with Jimerson throwing for two more touchdowns and running for another.

North Crowley outgained Westlake 367-206 in their dominating first half.

Second Half

North Crowley picked up where they left off to start the second half.

After a three and out by Westlake, the Panthers marched down the field on a 9-play, 84-yard drive that ended in a Daniel Bray touchdown.

Westlake came right back down the field and scored a touchdown of their own. Rees Wise took a QB keeper into the endzone to cut the lead to 35-14.

North Crowley struck back quickly though, with Bray scoring his second touchdown of the half on a 75-yard run. The Panthers then converted a two-point conversion to push the lead to 43-14.

Wise ran for another score in the fourth for the Chaparrals.

Jimerson threw another touchdown in the closing minutes of the fourth to have North Crowley crack the 50 point-mark for the eleventh time this season.
