Animal Cruelty Investigation Leads to Rescue of Nearly 50 Rottweilers in Watauga
Location: Watauga, Texas
In early March, Watauga officials uncovered a significant animal cruelty situation, resulting in the rescue of nearly 50 Rottweilers along with other animals from a residential property. The investigation was prompted after reports of a dog-related injury to an adult at the location.
Details of the Investigation
The inquiry began on March 1 when law enforcement received reports of an adult being injured by a dog on Geyser Trail. During the investigation, authorities discovered:
- 47 Rottweilers, 2 American Staffordshire Terriers, a mixed breed terrier, and a cat.
- Many animals were reported to be sick and required immediate medical care.
- The animals were found in alarmingly unsanitary living conditions.
Photographs provided by the Humane Society of North Texas depicted the appalling state of the kennels, with floors covered in feces and urine, highlighting the urgent need for intervention.
Collaboration for Rescue
Multiple animal welfare organizations, including the SPCA of Texas, the Humane Society of North Texas, and various city animal services, coordinated to safely remove the animals from the residence, providing immediate aid to those in critical need.
Possible Legal Consequences
The Watauga Police Department is continuing its investigation, with potential criminal charges on the horizon. However, authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of those involved, as the case remains active.
A Rottie Rescue
Officials confirmed that the property was linked to an organization called A Rottie Rescue. While the organization has removed its website and social media pages, it was previously recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing critically injured or ill Rottweilers.
How the Community Can Help
With such a large influx of animals, Fort Worth Animal Care has expressed concern over its shelter capacity. The organization encourages local residents to consider:
- Adopting or fostering Rottweilers or other available dogs from their facilities.
- Contributing to the healing and rehabilitation of these dogs who have faced significant hardships.
“The community of Fort Worth has shown incredible support in the past, and we are hopeful once more,” stated a representative from Fort Worth Animal Care. For more information about available dogs, visit Fort Worth Animal Care.
