San Antonio Book Festival Set for April 12
The San Antonio Book Festival is gearing up to host an exciting array of literary talent on April 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This free event welcomes families to explore panels, readings, book signings, and activities dedicated to the joy of reading.
A Celebration of Literature
Anna Dobben, the festival’s literary director, described the event as a “party for pages.” She emphasized the festival’s goal to foster enthusiasm for reading among attendees of all ages.
Featured Authors
More than 100 authors will be featured, including renowned writers across various genres:
- Martin Espada, National Book Award Winner, will present his latest poetry collection, Jailbreak of Sparrows.
- Laila Lalami, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, will discuss her new novel, The Dream Hotel.
- The duo Erin Entrada Kelly and Kwame Mbalia will showcase their collaborative work, On Again, Awkward Again.
- Kelsey McKinney, known for her podcast “Normal Gossip,” will feature her book, You Didn’t Hear This From Me: (Mostly) True Notes on Gossip.
Local Talent
The festival will also spotlight several Texas authors:
- Joe Holley will present Native Texan: Stories from Deep in the Heart.
- Etta Easton will discuss her romantic novel, The Love Simulation.
- Gabino Iglesias will share his horror tale, House of Bone and Rain.
- Stephen Harrigan will introduce Sorrowful Mysteries: The Shepherd Children of Fatima and the Fate of the Twentieth Century.
Activities for Young Readers
Young readers are also prioritized, with events tailored for various age groups:
- Matt de la Peña, a Newbery Medal winner, will present Home, exploring the essence of belonging.
- Breanna Carzoo, an author-illustrator, will promote her award-winning picture book, The Squish.
For older children, authors Greg Foley and Adrianna Cuevas will showcase their works, while young adult fiction will be represented by Farrah Rochon and Huda Fahmy.
Official Bookseller and More Information
Nowhere Bookshop, the festival’s official bookseller, will be on site to offer books from featured authors. Elizabeth Jordan, the shop’s general manager, expressed pride in being part of the festival, saying, “It’s a great day for book lovers in San Antonio.”
