Dallas County Invites Public to Test New Voting System

DALLAS – Dallas County is set to enhance its electoral process by inviting local residents to participate in a public testing of its new voting system and electronic pollbook devices. This initiative comes in light of challenges encountered during the November election.

Details of the Testing Event

The Dallas County Elections Department will be conducting a verification test aimed at ensuring the reliability of its redesigned voting equipment. This event will take place on Wednesday, April 2, at 9 a.m. at the Dallas County Elections Department.

Attendees will have the opportunity to confirm that votes are accurately recorded. The test will feature ballots that mirror the races listed in the upcoming May 3 Joint and Special Election; however, it’s important to note that these test ballots will not count in the official election outcome.

Introduction of New Technology

Participants will also be able to engage with the new KNOWiNK electronic pollbook devices. This tablet-based check-in system is designed to streamline the voter check-in process, aiming to reduce wait times and securely validate voter information.

Feedback from participants is encouraged, as it will help the Elections Department identify effective aspects of the system and areas that may need further enhancement.

Context and Improvements

This testing initiative follows the problems experienced during the November 2024 election, where a malfunction in the previous check-in system resulted in over 4,000 voters receiving incorrect ballots. County officials are confident that the new system will improve both accuracy and efficiency in the voting process.

The opportunity for public participation in testing this new system illustrates Dallas County’s commitment to ensuring a reliable electoral process. Residents are encouraged to join the event to play a role in shaping the future of voting in their community.
