Police Arrest Man in Connection with Fatal Hit-and-Run in Arlington
ARLINGTON, Texas – Authorities in Arlington have arrested 25-year-old Joel Sac Tambriz, linked to a tragic hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of 30-year-old Daniel Cruces last year. The incident occurred at an intersection on June 9, 2024.
Details of the Incident
According to investigators, Cruces was utilizing a crosswalk at the intersection of Pioneer Parkway and South Center Street when he was struck by a black Honda Civic. The collision took place around 2 a.m., and despite rapid response from officers, Cruces was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Civic fled the scene, prompting a thorough investigation. Law enforcement later discovered the abandoned vehicle approximately half a mile from the crash site.
Discovery of the Suspect
Investigators conducted a detailed examination of the abandoned Honda Civic, where they found personal items belonging to Tambriz, including a phone and identification documents. Additionally, records confirmed that the car was registered to him. Earlier in the year, Tambriz had already been pulled over while driving the same vehicle.
Digital evidence further corroborated Tambriz’s presence at the scene just before the fatal incident.
Community Impact and Response
The heart-wrenching impact of Cruces’s death is felt deeply by his family, especially by his wife, Megan Vogel. “I personally feel like I’m in an alternate universe. Everything’s the same but so different,” Vogel shared. “The days are just really hard. We have a 7-year-old daughter who is deeply affected by it, and it’s just really hard to be normal and do normal things.”
Next Steps for the Suspect
On March 10, 2025, police in Victoria apprehended Tambriz. He is currently being held at the Victoria County Jail, awaiting extradition to Tarrant County, where he faces charges for the collision resulting in death.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather all relevant evidence surrounding this case.
