About Austin Metcalf
Austin, who was 17 years old and a junior student at Memorial High School, was admired for his academic excellence and leadership qualities. His father, Jeff Metcalf, shared that Austin was well-respected in the school community and a key player on both the track and field team and the Memorial High School football team, where he was voted team MVP.
Describing his son, Jeff stated, “Austin was a leader. He led the football team… Football was his pride and joy.” Tributes from his community reflect the deep impact he had on those around him, particularly as a teammate and friend.
Tragic Incident
On April 2, Austin Metcalf was fatally stabbed during a UIL District 11-5A track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco. According to authorities, Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old student from nearby Frisco Centennial High School, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the incident. He is currently being held in Collin County Jail with a bond set at $1 million.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the altercation escalated quickly, resulting in the tragic loss of Austin’s life. His twin brother witnessed the event and attempted to assist him, a heart-wrenching experience that deeply affected the family.
Community Response
The community’s grief is palpable, with many people coming forward to share their memories and support for the Metcalf family. Jeff commented on the outpouring of support at the hospital, acknowledging, “Based on the number of people who showed up… I know my son touched people’s lives.” The emotional toll on his family, particularly on Austin’s twin brother, is a heavy burden they are learning to carry.
The legal proceedings regarding the alleged assailant are ongoing, with Karmelo Anthony expected in court shortly for further developments.
