DALLAS – DART says it is keeping its transit stations open longer beginning on Thursday.
Crews are preparing to clear rails and waiting areas when the snow and ice come.
DART wants riders to expect delays on Thursday, but it is preparing to have a quick response to the weather to keep buses and trains going.
Is DART running tomorrow?
What we know:
Wednesday will be the last dry day in Dallas for at least 48 hours. A wintry mix and snow will move into the area on Thursday.
“It’ll be a collaboration of folks, city and DART working to make sure there are safe rides for folk,” said DART Spokesperson Jasmyn Carter.
Beginning Thursday, DART transit stations will stay open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
In 2023 and 2024, DART dealt with ice and snow on roads, rails and train stations.
Carter says they are prepared to clear those areas, but passengers should prepare for possible delays.
“We want to make sure you do move with the thought process that rides will have impacted times,” Carter said. “That is for safety, making sure we are cleaning the street, making sure people can get on properly. Make sure that you prepare to arrive delayed out of caution.”
The city of Dallas prepared its salt barn and trucks. Main roads and roads close to critical buildings like hospitals have priority for road clearing.
What we don’t know:
Right now, it’s unknown when routes could be impacted. It’s also unclear if DART will suspend any services if the roadways get too dicey.
“It depends on what happens. We want to keep things as normal because people want to get to work and get home. But that is on a case-by-case basis,” Carter said. “The unhoused community is part of our DART community. Our warming centers are for our riders, but we have added the shelters people can go to on our DART website and GoPass.
DART says it will provide weather updates online and on its app. For those who don’t have internet access, you can call DART at 214-979-1111 for the latest info.
