DALLAS – Travelers at DFW Airport on Friday are crossing their fingers after hundreds of flights were canceled and delayed on Friday due to weather.
Storms and severe weather prompted a ground stop at both DFW Airport and Dallas Love Field on Thursday.
By The Numbers: According to flight tracking website Flight Aware, Dallas-Fort Worth led the country in total cancelations with 264 and delays with 580.
DFW Airport estimated 4.7 million passengers will travel through the airport from Dec. 20 to Jan. 7. That’s up 2.4% from last year.
What They’re Saying: Joey Walsh, his wife and two young children planned to travel to China to spend Chinese New Year with his extended family.
The weather pushed their flight from Thursday to Friday, causing him to miss his connecting flight in Korea.
The problem is there is only one flight a week from Korea the area of China where they are traveling.
“I understand if domestic flights are delayed because of the weather, but not international flights. It’s the first time it’s ever happened to me. I’ve been on 30 to 40 flights to China. I’ve never had that happen,” said Walsh. “We’re trying to make the most of it. I mean we accepted it after a few hours yesterday, and we’re like, oh, well, we’ll just accept it.”
What You Can Do: DFW Airport suggests arriving at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights to allow time for parking, check-in and security screenings.
They also suggest downloading the DFW mobile app to pre-book parking, check wait times and more.
