Family Pleads for Information as Missing Cuban Woman’s Body Is Found in San Antonio

A body believed to belong to a woman in her 20s was discovered in a wooded area in far Northwest San Antonio, under an overpass at the intersection of Braun Road and Mustang Ranch. The discovery was made on Wednesday during a search for 28-year-old Mariadelis Labrador Siles, who was reported missing earlier in the week.

Details of the Case

Labrador Siles, who migrated from Cuba to the United States a little over a year ago, was reported missing after she failed to return from her daily walk on Monday. Search and rescue teams found her body alongside a weapon, according to local authorities.

A Family’s Heartfelt Plea

On Thursday, her family, still residing in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba, made an emotional appeal for information regarding her whereabouts. “To the entire community of San Antonio, please help us with any information so they can find her and bring her home. She’s the sweetest girl in the world for something to have happened to her,” her father stated in a video shared on social media. He urged the public to light candles for her safe return.

Investigative Details

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar reported that the body exhibited signs of trauma, but it has not been established whether these injuries were self-inflicted or the result of foul play. Officials are treating the situation as a possible homicide or suicide while awaiting further examination from the Medical Examiner’s Office.

“We don’t have any indicators that the body was dragged here. What we have is that the person died here on scene,” Salazar added.

Background of the Missing Woman

Mariadelis Labrador Siles, last seen around 9 a.m. on Monday, was noted for her fitness enthusiasm, often engaging in daily walks with her personal belongings typically left behind. She was last seen wearing a blue light jacket and black Puma shoes with pink soles.

Prior to moving to the U.S., she worked as a primary school teacher in Cuba, where she genuinely enjoyed teaching children. Her migration was sponsored by her boyfriend through a humanitarian parole program.

Searching for Answers

The area where her body was found is recognized as a natural walking path through dense brush. Her cousin, Ismel Labrador, traveled from Florida to assist in the search efforts and was visibly affected upon visiting the scene.

The last person known to have seen her alive was her romantic partner, who has been cooperative with the investigation and is not considered a suspect at this time. He indicated that Labrador Siles may have ventured to Wildhorse Sports Park during her walk.

Authorities noted the possibility that she might have been experiencing a mental crisis before her disappearance; however, friends and family express disbelief at the notion that she would have harmed herself. “I want to reiterate that she was a happy girl… I don’t think she would ever try to harm herself,” a family friend remarked.

The Broader Issue of Missing Persons

Labrador Siles’ case highlights a concerning trend in San Antonio, where nine individuals are reported missing daily. In a similar incident last September, another woman was found dead in a wooded area after disappearing during her walk.

Authorities recommend that if someone goes missing, reports should be filed promptly and families should provide identifying images to assist in the investigation.
