EdgeConneX Makes Major $440 Million Investment in Central Texas Tech Hub

by Texas Recap Contributor

In a significant move for the Central Texas tech industry, EdgeConneX, a global leader in data center infrastructure, announced a $440 million investment to build a cutting-edge data center in Cedar Creek, Bastrop County, just outside of Austin. The data center, set to begin construction in August 2025, will cover 578,000 square feet and is expected to become a key component of the region’s rapidly growing digital infrastructure.

This investment is part of Texas’s broader push to become a national leader in data and technology infrastructure. Texas’s favorable business climate, with its competitive tax incentives and access to a skilled workforce, has made the state an attractive location for tech companies looking to build data centers and cloud infrastructure. The new facility will help meet the increasing demand for digital services as the tech industry continues to boom, with more companies relying on secure, scalable data solutions.

Creating Jobs and Boosting Local Economy

The new data center in Bastrop County is expected to create more than 60 permanent jobs, contributing over $6 million annually in wages and benefits. Additionally, the construction phase will generate between 400 and 600 temporary jobs, providing a substantial economic boost to the local community. The development is expected to contribute significantly to Bastrop’s economy, both in terms of job creation and increased tax revenue.

Bastrop County has made strides to position itself as a key player in the region’s tech sector. In mid-2024, the county designated the site for the data center as a commercial-industrial reinvestment zone, and in December 2024, EdgeConneX secured a 10-year tax abatement agreement. These strategic moves have helped attract this high-tech development, positioning the county for future growth in the tech sector.

Central Texas: The Next Big Tech Hub

The new data center is part of a broader trend of tech investments pouring into Central Texas. Cities like Austin and San Antonio have long been recognized for their tech and innovation ecosystems, with major companies such as Apple, Tesla, and Google making significant investments in the region. As more companies turn to Texas for its business-friendly environment, the state is well-positioned to continue attracting major investments in technology and infrastructure.

As EdgeConneX breaks ground on this new data center, it further cements Central Texas’s reputation as a growing tech hub, attracting companies focused on digital infrastructure and innovation. This development is a key example of how Texas is leveraging its resources and business climate to lead the way in technology and data center development.
