Ahead of his first game against the Mavericks as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, Dončić contributed significant funds to various GoFundMe campaigns supporting local athletes in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
Dončić’s Generous Donation to the Texas Chosen
Andre Banks, head coach of the Texas Chosen AAU girls basketball team, shared an inspiring story about a fundraiser organized by his wife to raise money for new uniforms. Initially, she set up the GoFundMe account without telling many people, hoping for the best.
Out of the blue, she received an email notification stating that a “Luka” had donated the full required amount of $1,500. Banks recalled his initial skepticism, jokingly questioning if it was even possible that Luka Dončić had made such a donation. But as it turned out, it was indeed the famous NBA star.
“I was like how does a guy of this stature, one of the faces of the NBA, find a little team like us and donate the full amount we asked for?” Banks reflected. “It’s a blessing. We really and truly thank you. We are big fans. The girls love you; it really put a smile on their faces and made those girls happy. It was really inspiring.”
Dončić’s Broader Contributions to DFW
In recent days, Dončić’s name has surfaced frequently in connection with substantial donations across various local campaigns on GoFundMe. Besides the Texas Chosen, he also contributed to a Fort Worth soccer team’s fundraising efforts aimed at securing training equipment and provided financial assistance for a Mesquite teenager’s AAU basketball experience.
The support has allowed these campaigns to successfully exceed their fundraising goals. In a statement, Dončić expressed his motivation for giving back, saying, “I’m grateful to be able to help kids who just want to get out there and play. Play changes lives, and all kids should have access to sports.”
