Urgent Search for Armed Robbery Suspect in Azle Smoke Shop Incidents
The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a recent armed robbery that took place at a smoke shop in Azle. Disturbingly, it appears that the same suspect has targeted the establishment twice within a short period, with the latest incident escalating to gunfire.
Details of the Incidents
The first robbery occurred on April 12 at around 10 AM, when the suspect, dressed in dark attire, brandished a firearm taken from his backpack and made off with cash shortly thereafter. Law enforcement officials reported that this initial event lacked the violence seen in the second robbery.
Then, late on April 18—just a week later—an armed individual entered the smoke shop shortly before closing time at approximately 1 AM. The clerk was confronted at gunpoint, pressured to surrender cash while the suspect discharged multiple rounds towards the wall. Notably, one shot was aimed directly at a security camera, intensifying the fear of the situation.
Witness Descriptions and Community Response
In light of these alarming events, locals have expressed their concerns, particularly since the shop has since closed its doors. Nearby businesses are displaying images of the suspect, hoping that community awareness will lead to swift identification and apprehension.
According to Chief Jennifer Gabbert of the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, “The robbery was successful the first time. He just did not do as much violence with the weapon as the second time. We believe he’s dangerous. There are a couple video sections where you can see his face. We believe somebody knows who he is.”
Public’s Role in Investigation
Both robbery incidents reportedly occurred while the suspect fled on foot, leading investigators to believe that he may reside in the vicinity. The Sheriff’s Office has requested public assistance, urging anyone with information regarding the suspect’s identity to come forward. Immediate contact with law enforcement could help avert further violence.
