Rowan Digital Infrastructure’s $900 Million Investment Near San Antonio

August 15, 2025 – Lytle, Texas – Texas is rapidly becoming a prime destination for tech investment, with Denver-based Rowan Digital Infrastructure announcing plans to build a state-of-the-art, $900 million data center campus in Medina County, just outside of San Antonio. This significant move is part of Rowan’s strategy to meet the growing demand for cloud computing services and data storage, especially from artificial intelligence (AI) companies.

The Size and Scope of the Project

The data center, named “Cinco,” will span 440 acres and will be capable of providing up to 300 megawatts of power—enough to support large-scale operations for major technology firms. The center is designed to cater to businesses dealing with big data, machine learning, and cloud computing. Initial construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2025, with operations slated for completion in 18 to 24 months.

The facility’s location is strategic. Medina County’s proximity to San Antonio, Texas’ third-largest city, offers access to critical infrastructure, including ample fiber optic networks, power grids, and a workforce ready to support the tech sector. Lytle, a rural area, is set to become a regional hub for data centers, alongside Bexar County and other areas in South Texas.

Sustainability and Future Growth

One of the most exciting aspects of this development is its commitment to sustainability. Rowan Digital Infrastructure plans to power the data center with a combination of renewable energy sources, including hydroelectric, wind, and solar power. This move aligns with global trends of green energy adoption in the tech industry and responds to growing demands for carbon-neutral infrastructure.

As the data center market continues to grow across the U.S., this facility in Texas will help meet increasing data storage needs, particularly in AI, which requires vast amounts of computing power and storage. This initiative will also bring notable economic benefits to the region, with over 600 construction jobs and 40 permanent positions anticipated.

Impact on Texas’ Tech Landscape

The Cinco data center is one of several high-profile projects reshaping Texas’ role in the technology sector. Texas has increasingly been seen as a tech-friendly state, offering a robust business environment with tax incentives and a growing talent pool. This project further solidifies the state’s standing as a leader in tech infrastructure and digital services.

The strategic location and energy-efficient design make the Cinco campus a promising step toward Texas becoming a global data center hub. As major tech companies and AI developers look for secure, scalable, and green data storage solutions, Texas’ role in the industry continues to expand.
