Woman Rescued After Hours Trapped In Elevator On 45th Floor

What we know:

A woman was trapped in an elevator for several hours on the 45th floor of a Downtown Dallas building after leaving a restaurant Wednesday evening.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to 1401 Elm Street shortly before 6:30 p.m. after receiving calls about a person stuck in an elevator.

The woman was trapped for more than two hours before being rescued using a pulley system.

She was evaluated by medical personnel after being removed from the elevator shaft and was found to have no injuries.

Other diners leaving the restaurant temporarily used a service elevator.

How the woman was rescued:

An elevator technician initially tried to fix the elevator and free the woman but was unsuccessful. Dallas Fire-Rescue’s Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team was called to assist.

A rescuer was lowered from the 49th floor onto the elevator roof to set up an anchor for a pulley system.

Using the pulley system, both the woman and the rescuer were pulled back up to the restaurant floor, where the woman had entered the elevator.

What we don’t know:

The woman and the restaurant have not been identified.

It remains unclear what caused the elevator to malfunction or if the issue has been resolved.
