Five Finalists Named in Search for Dallas Chief of Police
DALLAS – The hunt for a new chief of police for the Dallas Police Department has reached a critical stage with the identification of five distinct candidates. This selection comes during a nationwide search aimed at finding a leader to navigate the department into its future.
Candidates for Chief of Police
City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert has successfully narrowed down the extensive list of applicants from 25 to five experienced law enforcement professionals:
- Roberto Arrendondo Jr. – Chief of Police at Carrollton Police Department
- Brian Boetig – Retired Assistant Director from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
- Daniel C. Comeaux – Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Houston Field Division
- Michael T. Igo – Interim Chief of Police for the Dallas Police Department
- Catrina M. Shead – Assistant Chief within the Dallas Police Department
Upcoming Selection Process
All candidates will engage in a variety of events designed to assess their fit for the role, including opportunities to meet city officials and the public. According to Tolbert, a final decision regarding the new chief is anticipated by the second week of April.
“This search has produced an impressive pool of candidates with proven law enforcement leadership experience from a variety of agencies across the country,” noted Tolbert.
Event Schedule
The following events have been scheduled for the finalists:
- Monday, March 31:
- 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Meet-and-greet with the City Council at City Hall
- 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM: Meet-and-greet with feedback panel members at City Hall
- Tuesday, April 1:
- 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM: Feedback panels with community representatives, law enforcement experts, and city officials
- 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM: Public meet-and-greet in the City Hall lobby
- Wednesday, April 2:
- Meetings with Tolbert and senior city leadership.
Background Information
The search for new leadership follows the retirement of former Chief Eddie Garcia, who left the position in September 2024 to assume a role in Austin. Interim Chief Michael Igo, who has a distinguished 33-year career with the Dallas Police Department, stepped into the role in November and previously served as the executive assistant chief.
