Daniyal Robinson Appointed as Head Coach of UNT Men’s Basketball
Denton – The University of North Texas (UNT) has announced the hiring of Daniyal Robinson as the 20th head coach in the history of its men’s basketball program.
Transition in Leadership
Robinson steps into the role shortly after Ross Hodge accepted a head coaching position at West Virginia, marking a pivotal moment for UNT’s basketball program as it seeks to maintain its competitive edge.
About Daniyal Robinson
Daniyal Robinson comes to UNT following a successful tenure at Cleveland State, where he amassed a total of 65 wins and secured three consecutive seasons with over 20 victories. During his time there, his teams made three postseason appearances and achieved a commendable record of 39-21 in conference matches.
Coaching Philosophy and Reputation
Robinson is known for his defensive coaching style and has built a strong reputation as both an effective recruiter and a mentor for young athletes. His accomplishments at Cleveland State illustrate his capability to thrive in a highly competitive environment, particularly in the current dynamic of college sports influenced by the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) agreements.
Comments from Athletics Leadership
Jared Mosley, Vice President and Director of Athletics at UNT, expressed confidence in Robinson’s abilities, stating, “Daniyal is a defensive focused coach who has a reputation as a great recruiter and builder of young men. His track record of success at Cleveland State speaks for itself with three straight 20-win seasons in this chaotic NIL environment. He’s learned from some of the best coaches in the business, and it was clear in our conversations that he has a detailed plan to ensure continued momentum and success at the national level. We look forward to welcoming Daniyal, his wife Kim, and three children — Devyn, Reece, and Reid to Denton.”
