Bishop T.D. Jakes Discusses Heart Attack After Sermon Collapse
DALLAS – Bishop T.D. Jakes, the founder of The Potter’s House of Dallas, has spoken publicly about his health scare that occurred during a sermon last November. Jakes’ experience highlights the importance of recognizing unusual health events.
Details of the Health Incident
In a recent interview with TODAY, Jakes informed that he suffered from a “massive heart attack.” Remarkably, he learned that if he had sought medical help just five minutes later, the outcome could have been fatal.
Unusually, Jakes did not exhibit the typical symptoms associated with a heart attack, such as chest pain or numbness; instead, he described feeling unusually lethargic, akin to “drifting off to sleep.” Medical professionals revealed he was delivering his sermon with only half of his heart functioning properly.
Incident Details: Rushed from the Stage
On November 24, as Jakes concluded a Sunday sermon, he collapsed on stage. Footage from the service, shared across various social media platforms, captured the 67-year-old pastor visibly shaking before being quickly assisted off the platform.
Following the incident, Jakes reassured his followers via social media, clarifying that it was “not a stroke” and attributing his survival to divine intervention, stating, “it could’ve been fatal if it weren’t for God’s intervention.”
After spending time in recovery, he made a triumphant return to the pulpit on New Year’s Eve, demonstrating his resilience.
