Three Apprehended Following Deadly DWI Incident in Arlington
ARLINGTON – The Arlington Police Department is investigating a tragic incident involving a suspected DWI crash that resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man on Saturday evening.
Incident Overview
The accident occurred on Interstate 20 near Bowen Road shortly after 7:30 p.m. Witnesses quickly alerted police about three individuals who fled the scene after a collision between a pickup truck and a Mitsubishi sedan.
Details of the Crash
Upon arrival, officers found a Mitsubishi engulfed in flames. Arlington firefighters managed to extinguish the fire, only to discover the remains of a young man inside.
According to eyewitness accounts, a 2004 Ford F-150 was seen driving erratically before colliding with the rear of the idling Mitsubishi. This impact sent the Mitsubishi crashing into a concrete wall, which subsequently ignited the vehicle.
Arrests Made
Police identified the driver of the F-150 as 25-year-old Cesar Ramirez Castro. Authorities suspected that he might be under the influence of alcohol. After performing several roadside sobriety tests, Ramirez Castro was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter as well as a count of collision involving death. He remains on an immigration hold at the Arlington City Jail pending a blood test.
Two passengers in the pickup truck, aged 30 and 24, were also taken into custody. Marcelino Ramirez-Ramirez and Daniel Castro Zammarron face charges of public intoxication.
The Role of Witnesses
Witnesses played a crucial role in the swift capture of the suspects. Some bystanders documented the incident by taking photographs of the fleeing individuals, aiding law enforcement in their identification.
Sergeant Alex Rosado from the Arlington Police remarked, “Some of them even took photographs of the suspects leaving, which really helps us identify those suspects, and we were able to capture them very, very quickly.” He also expressed disappointment that the fleeing individuals did not attempt to help the victim, stating, “It’s a shame, you know, you have an accident, the car caught on fire, and instead of helping that person out of that car, they just fled.”
Next Steps
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release the identity of the deceased individual as the investigation continues.
