The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Texas Rangers 10-5 on Sunday, August 9, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, ending Texas’ four-game winning streak and preventing the Rangers from completing a three-game sweep. The game was highlighted by a powerful performance from Baltimore first baseman Pete Alonso, who hit two home runs and drove in four runs as the Orioles’ offense broke out in a major way.

The victory was especially notable because Baltimore had struggled to produce runs earlier in the series. The Orioles scored only one run in each of their previous three games against Texas, but their offense changed dramatically in the series finale. Baltimore collected 15 hits and scored 10 runs, giving the club its most productive offensive performance of the series.

Alonso was at the center of the offensive surge. He finished the afternoon with three hits, including two two-run home runs, and four RBIs. His second home run of the game was his 25th of the season and helped the Orioles create separation from the Rangers late in the contest.

Baltimore did not rely exclusively on Alonso. Tyler O’Neill added a two-run home run, while Colton Cowser hit a solo shot. Coby Mayo contributed three hits, and Jackson Holliday, Leody Taveras and Cowser each recorded two hits. The balanced attack gave the Orioles opportunities throughout the game and helped them maintain pressure on Texas pitching.

For the Rangers, the game began with expectations of completing a sweep after Texas had won the first two games of the series. Instead, the Orioles quickly established control. Texas starter Kumar Rocker struggled to contain Baltimore’s hitters, allowing six runs in just over three innings. The early deficit put the Rangers in a difficult position against an Orioles lineup that continued producing runs.

Texas did have its offensive moments. Brandon Nimmo hit a three-run home run, giving the Rangers a chance to remain competitive. However, the Rangers were unable to consistently convert opportunities into runs. Texas went just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, an important factor in the five-run defeat.

Baltimore’s pitching also settled down after an uncertain start. Orioles starter Cade Povich allowed three runs over three innings before leaving the game. Yaramil Hiraldo followed with two scoreless innings and earned the victory, helping Baltimore stabilize the game while the offense continued to build its lead.

The result carried significance for both clubs. For Baltimore, it provided a strong offensive response after three low-scoring games and prevented the Orioles from leaving Arlington without a victory. For Texas, the loss halted a four-game winning streak but did not erase the progress made during the first two games of the series.

The game also demonstrated the importance of timely hitting during the regular season. Texas had opportunities to reduce the deficit, but its struggles with runners in scoring position limited the impact of its five runs. Baltimore, meanwhile, repeatedly converted its chances, particularly through Alonso’s power hitting and the contributions of several other players.

The Rangers’ loss also came shortly before the club made a roster move involving veteran starter Nathan Eovaldi. On August 10, Texas placed Eovaldi on the 15-day injured list with inflammation in his right posterior elbow. The move was backdated to Sunday, August 9. Eovaldi had allowed only one run over 5⅓ innings in Texas’ 2-1 victory over Baltimore on August 7.

Despite Sunday’s setback, the Rangers remained in a competitive position in the American League West. The club’s ability to recover from individual losses would become important as the season moved further into August and the schedule became increasingly significant for teams pursuing postseason positions.

For Baltimore, the 10-5 victory offered a reminder of the offensive potential within its lineup. Alonso’s two-home-run performance provided the headline, but the Orioles’ 15-hit effort showed that the result was not dependent on one player alone.

For Texas fans, the main takeaway was that the Rangers’ recent momentum had been interrupted rather than erased. The club had won four straight entering the game and had already secured the series against Baltimore before Sunday’s finale. The loss also highlighted areas that needed attention, particularly pitching consistency and production with runners in scoring position.

The Orioles’ 10-5 victory ultimately belonged to Alonso and an offense that finally broke through in Arlington. Baltimore avoided a sweep, ended Texas’ four-game winning streak and left Globe Life Field with a convincing win. For the Rangers, the game provided both a reminder of the challenges of a long regular season and an opportunity to regroup as the August schedule continued.
