The 2026 Texas Arts and Music Festival opens October 16 in Brenham, bringing live music, public murals, and local art to the community.

The streets of downtown Brenham are becoming an outdoor celebration of creativity as the 11th annual Texas Arts and Music Festival officially opens on October 16, 2026. Artists, musicians, students, and community members are gathering for a three day event that highlights the state's creative talent and cultural traditions. With live performances, public mural projects, and an expanded art exhibition, this year's festival offers residents and visitors an opportunity to experience Texas culture in a welcoming community setting. The celebration continues through October 18, bringing together established artists, emerging performers, and young creators.

Texas Arts And Music Festival Celebrates Its 11th Year

The Texas Arts and Music Festival has become an annual cultural event in Brenham, a Washington County community known for its historic downtown and local arts scene. The 2026 celebration marks the festival's 11th edition, with activities designed to make visual art and live music accessible to a broad audience.

The festival officially begins Friday, October 16, following an educational program held Thursday for local and area students. During Art Education Day, students participated in guided tours, drawing activities, and conversations with professional artists and participating muralists.

These educational experiences introduced young participants to different artistic techniques while allowing them to observe creative professionals at work.

The festival's free admission also provides an accessible opportunity for families and visitors to explore artistic expression without purchasing an event ticket.

New Public Murals Bring Creativity To Downtown Brenham

One of the festival's defining features is its focus on public art. This year's program includes three new murals being created in downtown Brenham, continuing the event's emphasis on transforming everyday public spaces through artistic expression.

The announced mural locations include Austin Street between Main and Alamo Streets, an area near 2tinygallery and Toubin Park, and South Street.

Public murals can serve several purposes within a community. Beyond their visual appeal, they create opportunities for residents to engage with artwork outside traditional galleries and museums.

They can also reflect local identity, encourage conversations about creativity, and contribute to the character of a downtown district.

For festival visitors, watching artists develop large paintings offers a closer look at the planning, technique, and craftsmanship involved in public art.

Brenham Heritage Museum Hosts Expanded Art Exhibition

Another major feature of the 2026 Texas Arts and Music Festival is its partnership with the Brenham Heritage Museum.

For the first time, the museum is hosting the festival's juried art exhibition as a monthlong presentation rather than limiting the display to the festival weekend.

The exhibition runs from October 1 through October 31 and includes more than 50 works created by artists from across Texas and the Brenham community.

Visitors can explore paintings, photography, sculptures, and other artistic pieces. The collection also includes special contributions from Blinn College and Brenham High School, giving student artists an opportunity to exhibit their work alongside other participants.

An opening reception is scheduled for October 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Brenham Heritage Museum, located at 105 South Market Street.

The reception features refreshments and live music by Zach Hyde. Admission is free, allowing visitors to experience the exhibition and connect with the local arts community.

Live Music Brings Texas Performers To The Festival

Music remains an essential part of the festival's identity, with performances scheduled throughout the weekend.

The Last Bandoleros, a San Antonio group recognized for combining rock, pop, country, and Latin influences, are scheduled to headline Saturday evening's entertainment.

Their performance is set for October 17 at 8 p.m., following scheduled appearances by The Guzzlers at 4 p.m. and Henry Invisible at 6 p.m.

Sunday's program includes a performance by Phil N' The Blanks Jazz Band, scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.

Together, these performers represent different musical styles and offer audiences an opportunity to enjoy a varied entertainment program.

The festival also features an art village and food vendors, creating additional spaces for visitors to explore creative work and spend time downtown.

Why The Festival Matters For Texas Communities

The Texas Arts and Music Festival illustrates how community celebrations can bring together education, entertainment, and cultural participation.

For emerging artists, public exhibitions provide opportunities to present their work to new audiences. For students, educational activities introduce creative careers and artistic practices in an interactive environment.

Local businesses may also benefit from increased visitor activity during festival weekend, although the event's actual economic impact has not been established through publicly reported attendance or spending figures.

The festival's combination of music, public art, and museum programming demonstrates how different cultural organizations can work together to create a shared community experience.

Its expanded exhibition also extends the celebration beyond a single weekend, giving residents additional opportunities to appreciate artwork throughout October.

What Visitors Should Know About The Festival

The 2026 Texas Arts and Music Festival runs from October 16 through October 18 in downtown Brenham.

Saturday's activities include an art village, food vendors, live performances, and a children's business fair scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sunday's program continues with art vendors and live jazz, while the juried exhibition remains available at the Brenham Heritage Museum through October 31.

Visitors planning to attend can review the complete schedule, participating artists, and event information at Texas Arts and Music Festival.

As the celebration begins, its significance extends beyond entertainment.
