Frisco City Council Approves $182m For Toyota Stadium Improvements

Toyota Stadium Set for Major Upgrades in Frisco, Texas

FRISCO, Texas – The Frisco city council approved substantial enhancements to Toyota Stadium on Tuesday evening, moving forward with a plan to invest $182 million in renovations.

Details of the Renovation Plans

The project, proposed by the Hunt Sports Group, aims to significantly improve the stadium, which is currently the home of FC Dallas. Planned upgrades include:

  • Additional luxury suites and upgraded club spaces.
  • A new broadcast booth alongside enhanced press box facilities.
  • Improvements to food service areas including new commissaries and kitchens.
  • Reconstruction and modernization of concourse structures.
  • Installation of new restrooms, concessions, and retail outlets.
  • A contemporary LED sports lighting system.
  • Upgraded audiovisual capabilities.
  • A fabric canopy covering the east and west seating areas, as well as a significant portion of the north end zone.

Mixed-Use Development Plans

In addition to stadium enhancements, the plans include a mixed-use development adjacent to the stadium that incorporates:

  • 1.2 million square feet of Class A office space.
  • A 200-room full-service upscale hotel, spanning 180,000 square feet.
  • A multifamily high-rise building with 200 dwelling units and ground floor retail and restaurant space, totaling approximately 300,000 square feet.
  • 30,000 square feet of retail and restaurant options that may be standalone or integrated into the hotel or multifamily building.
  • Parking structures designed to accommodate both event attendees and mixed-use district tenants, ensuring compliance with city parking regulations.
  • Community-focused civic spaces and enhanced urban streetscapes.

Timeline and Community Engagement

With the recent approval from the city council, construction is anticipated to commence in January and aims for completion by August 2027. Toyota Stadium, which first opened its doors in 2005 with a current capacity of approximately 20,500 seats, will see an additional 3,400 seats as part of this renovation project.

The stadium also serves as a venue for Frisco Independent School District football games, emphasizing its role as a hub for both professional sports and community events.

Conclusion

This significant investment in Toyota Stadium not only reflects the city’s commitment to enhancing local sports facilities but also aims to stimulate economic growth through new development opportunities in the surrounding area.
