Laredo to Host Community Altar and Tribute Slideshow for Día de los Muertos

In a heartfelt tribute to the beloved Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) tradition, the city of Laredo, in partnership with District VI Councilmember Dr. Tyler King, will host a Community Altar and Tribute Slideshow on November 1 at 6 p.m. The event will take place at the North Central Park trailhead area, located at 10202 International Boulevard, providing a beautiful setting for the community to come together in remembrance.
Día de los Muertos is a time-honored Mexican celebration that honors the lives and memories of those who have passed. It is a joyful occasion that embraces the idea of death as a natural part of life, with festivities that include creating altars (ofrendas) adorned with photographs, flowers, candles, and offerings like food and drink, meant to welcome the spirits of the departed back to the world of the living. Laredo’s event will feature a communal altar where attendees can place their own tributes to loved ones who have passed, alongside a tribute slideshow that will display photos submitted by residents.
To make this event truly personal and inclusive, Laredo residents are invited to submit high-quality JPEG photos of their deceased loved ones for inclusion in the tribute slideshow. The deadline for photo submissions is October 28, ensuring that the final presentation can reflect the diverse and meaningful connections within the community. The slideshow will be a central part of the evening’s remembrance, with each photo serving as a symbol of life, love, and family.
